A Beautiful Gut = A Beautiful You

If you don't feel well then you are acidic.
Say what? Acidic?

Um, what does that mean?

Do you consume Dairy, Gluten, Soy, Whey, Alcohol or Coffee?  All these are acidic and lead to inflammation.  Inflammation is the basis of virtually every disease!

If you want to start feeling amazing then here's what you need to do:  Become Vegan! No? What? Ay! No me peguen!! So here is something else you can do:  Consume clean foods.

Grass fed beef, free-range chicken eggs, organic produce and fruits, berries and green apples.  You might pay a little more but think of it this way:  Pay the farmer now or pay the doctor later.  I'd rather pay the farmer!!!

Try this for 30 days.  You will be amazed at what happens after those 30 days.  Here are just some examples of how you will be feeling:  Well rested due to better sleep, less joint pain, more energy, clear thinking, balanced emotions, better elimination, clearer skin, less anxiety, better health... This list goes on.

If your gut is unhealthy then guess what?  It wont be able to utilize nutrients.  Let's keep our gut beautifully fit because a damaged gut is no bueno.  70% of our immune system is in our gut!  80% of serotonin is found in the gut.  Serotonin is the best thing you could ask for.  It's a natural appetite suppressant, responsible for mood control, and sleep.  Come on my Polishticated Peeps!  Let's get our Serotonin on!

The root cause of Anxiety and Depression:  an unhealthy gut.
So if you want to be beautifully healthy, you need to do the following:  Respect Your Gut.  I gave up the cow chi-chi milk four years ago.  Turns out I was allergic!  Guess what?  We all are!

What about you, what have you given up for the sake of your health?

Looking out for you, with POLISHTICATED Healthy Living

Spring is in the air and in my closet!

Spring is nature's way of saying
"Let's Party!"
-Robin Williams

And I can't wait...

I’m so over this freezing weather! I’m dying to put away my jackets and scarves and start rocking some bright colors, and start showing some skin!

 Make it POP!

I am loving what spring has in store for us this season, beautiful shades minty green, salmon, nectarine, African violet and of course pink, which you can always mix with a sexy leopard or zebra print to make it pop!

It can be a little cold here and there especially at night time so don’t put your sweaters away quite yet, I suggest to just add a few spring colors that you can match with dress pants for the office or with a skirt or dress for the night time.

If you’re a diva on a budget like me, you want to make sure you get a few key pieces that you can mix and match for different looks and occasions.

A pair of colorful jeans can always be dressed up or down with the right top and accessories. I especially love the colorful blazers, they are elegant and professional for the office.  Whether you’re the naughty student or in my case the bad teacher, they also look good in the classroom.
You can also rock a very hot night look with a blazer by throwing it over a sexy little dress or a little top with some show stopper  accessories and shoes and look totally fierce.
It’s pretty much a win/win situation when it comes to colorful jeans and blazers—keep it classy with a splash of sexy.
And remember...
"Your path
is your runway!"
Work it Girl...

What about you, what are you looking foward to this Spring?

Leave me a comment I'd love to hear from you.

THE BEAUTY OF YOUR HEALTH

THE BEAUTY OF YOUR HEALTH

Are you taking care of you? Really think about this. Go on, stop reading right now and think about what your day will or already did look like today. We really need to take time to breath. It’s so cliché but boy is it true. You know what? Let’s take a deep breath together right now. At the count of three you and I will close our eyes and inhale very deeply. Now let’s exhale slowly. Imagine yourself on top of that beautiful green and extremely Majestic Mountain that Julie Andrews danced on. Oxygen in, carbon monoxide out. Hey! Why are you still reading this? We are breathing here!

Life is good isn’t it? It can really be this easy. I want to encourage you to do at least one beautiful thing a day for your temple. Start by eating clean foods and drinking clean water. Would you dump a glass of soda down your beloved vehicle’s gas tank?  I didn’t think so. There are 84,600 seconds in a day-let’s use every single one wisely.

So here we are, eating and drinking clean. We begin our day with great intentions. We took deep breaths, envisioned ourselves being productive and fueled ourselves with nutritious foods. Good health does not stop at nutritious foods. Turns out that it also continues with the products we use on our skin. That’s right, the largest organ of our body. What we put on our skin absorbs into our blood stream. We take our shower and shampoo our hair with that very sudsy coconut scented shampoo. You know which one I’m talking about. The one that reminds us of the summer of 1994. Then we lather our skin up with that  yummy mango scented and maybe a little glittery lotion. The one that makes us imagine ourselves as one of those leggy Victoria Secret Models walking down that long runway-What? You don’t imagine that-Um, me neither.

It’s time we take control of our health and re-think our products. I say No to products with mineral oil, artificial dyes, phylates, parabens, PABA, animal products or animal bi-products. Did you know that these ingredients were banned by the European Union in 2003? They are carcinogenic and linked to breast cancer. Those beautiful colored lotions and cosmetics are made from coal tar and studies show that almost all of them are carcinogenic. Many of these pigments cause skin sensitivity and irritation, or event oxygen depletion in the blood. I know, a little bit won’t hurt me. You’re right, it won’t. The thing is, we wear these products everyday.

Pucker Up Butter Cup-or not!
"Four hundred of the nation’s most popular lipsticks contained trace levels of lead when tested recently by the federal government, confirming similar results of earlier analyses but on a much wider scale and at higher levels than previously detected."
Washington Post…(Photo-drsoszka.com)

Mineral oil is in almost all of our personal care products. It is a petroleum derivative that coats the skin like saran wrap. This prevents the skin from breathing, absorbing and excreting. It also slows the skin’s natural cell development causing the skin to..GASP..age prematurely. Mineral oil is in everything. Who remembers lathering this stuff up in the early 90’s and tanning at the beach while listening to En Vouge-What? You didn’t do that? Um, me neither.

My dear friends, it’s a new day! Better yet! It’s a New Year! Rise and shine ladies and gentlemen; Stand up, SPARKLE but most importantly-Stay Healthy!

A Fake Doll That Gets It Right - Valeria Lukyanova "The Human Barbie"

Barbie? or NOT!

Meet Valeria Lukyanova a 21 year old Ukrainian model who’s been bombarded with negative press since her online presence went viral early this year.  Valeria is known as the Human Barbie or the Living Doll.  She’s been mostly criticized for her over the top efforts to alter her appearance to resemble that of Barbie.  While researching, I came across statements like “her life is uninspiring, fake, plastic, creepy, how can you do this to yourself?” blah blah blah!

As I learned of her existence, I looked through countless photos/videos and I must say, I am impressed.   The closest Barbie look alike I’ve ever seen.  She achieves her "doll-like" look mostly through makeup, extra large contact lenses, she’s got the Barbie pose down to a T and her clothes, well, they're as cute as the ones in the little pink packages.
In reference to her body, while some say it's disproportional I say it's stunning.  Mile long legs, itty bitty waist and large, large, did I mention large breasts?  Long blond hair and porcelain like skin.
Whether or not she had ribs removed in order to achieve her 19 inch waist (she denies any surgical procedures) I say, who cares!
So I was thinking... Why do we care so much what people do, simply because we don’t agree with it?  Perhaps we’re not used to seeing such hard work, thus labeling it exaggeration, ridiculous or craziness.
Here’s my take on it, I say... Good job Valeria, if your goal is to look like a doll, congratulations.  I commend you for your passion, dedication, determination, consistency, the most I have seen in a long time. It's kind of refreshing actually!   Let’s give the girl some credit this is hard work, I mean this girl eats and breathes Barbie, morning, noon and night.  She is on a raw vegetable, almost all liquid diet.  Most of us wouldn't last a day!

However, there were a few things I did find a little disturbing, one is that she tilts her head to either side almost all the time.  As she was asked about it, she responded on a YouTube video that her neck is too weak for her big head and threatened to ban anyone that asks again.  I think she’s probably tilting to pose, nothing wrong with that Valeria you’re in character, simple!  Her voice is very low and her demeanor is meek, it speaks to me of insecurity and lacks a bit of authenticity.  But these things will probably come with age, goes to show she’s still very young, that's all.
And don’t give me none of these crap about her and Barbie being a bad role model for little girls, raising false expectations on body image, bologna… that starts at home (period). To me Barbie stands for possibility, with her classy persona, and fun yet sophisticated wardrobe, SHE CAN BE ANYTHING! One might consider her the very essence of Polishticated...HA! Who would've thought :)

In conclusion, I see this as a form of bullying!  Let's not be so quick to judge and take a step back to admire the beauty or at least acknowledge the hard work. Let’s not care so much what people do, let them do their thing, while you do you.  In the meantime I’mma go do me!  Thanks for reading and enjoy the show.  Remember everybody has a story!
P.S. I should add that she’s a very talented musician and Opera singer J

Lastly...The Barbie, Anime characters and doll like appearance is a growing trend among youngsters these days, I see it as an art form, a way to express creativity and passion for "ANY ONE THING".
I’ve included other human dolls for your viewing pleasure and ADMIRATION!  Enjoy...

A Merry Little Christmas & Toys for Tots 12/13/12

I had a wonderful childhood thanks to my parents but especially my mother, she made sure we not only got the best toys, but the newest, biggest and lots of them.  I was raised in Mexico up until I was 11 years old, and every Christmas I looked forward to the posadas and festivities but I couldn't wait for January 6th to arrive, El Dia de Los Reyes.

Wow, the memories!  My brothers and I would write our lists and place them in our shoes right under the Christmas tree, so The Three Wise Men would be able to identify us and place our toys accordingly.  Every year we rose no later than 6 am and sometimes as early as 5 o'clock.  The only time I can remember waking up that early with no problem at all.

One morning in particular I remember waking up and as I walked passed the hallway I couldn't believe my eyes, the entire living room was filled with toys, they were everywhere, it was absolutely magical.  By 7am there were kids playing outside in their pajamas, including us.  One year I got a big green bike, too big for me, it had a long seat with enough room for three, it was perfect since I had to ride as passenger, and it gave another kid an opportunity to feel like they too were enjoying a new toy.

I was going to write about the biblical story of The Three Wise Men but I decided it wasn't important, not for what I want to express here.  You see?  For me it wasn't about religion, or the bible it was about the magic my parents created and the gift of the experience, the memories we grew up with, that's what shaped who I am today, my happy little playful childhood.  The fantasy, a wonderful tradition, our beautiful Mexican customs.  We were fortunate!

How times have changed.  Everything feels different and we as a nation, have experienced rough economic times  and while some are healing from this turbulence others have yet to overcome it.  This is a stressful time for struggling parents as we all want to see our children's faces light up with joy.  Let's face it for children it's only about excitement, anticipation, the cheer of awaiting this happy day, the illusion of something magical... Christmas & "Santa Clause" that's all it really is, a time to play and a time of joy! I've always said, a child's only job is to play.

My desire to be of service doesn't come from a lack of having but from knowing what it is to have and the feeling it leaves behind.

In an effort to contribute if only just a bit to a child's Merry Little Christmas, we have created the possibility to make a difference.  Through Toys for Tots and with your support we aim to bring a little magic to many children's lives.  We invite you to join this very noble cause, here's how you can help.  This year while you shop for your loved ones, buy an extra toy for a child in need, it's really that simple, every little bit counts.  (details below)

This event is made possible with the support of these Phenomenal Men Women:  Gia Revelli, Mayra Lopez Uribe, Patty Galvez, Denise Ledon, Markus Biegel, Victor Garica and your truly -Araceli Alarcon.

Salad With The BIG Fork

A few months ago I attended an event which went for hooouuurs (9 to 5), they did however serve us lunch, a three course meal. It was delightful.

I picked a table and sat by two very lovely ladies, I told them all about Polishticated and they were not only impressed ... they were inspired (wink, wink). Networking is how I grow my business and let me tell you, I worked that room until I was out of business cards and I had a very pleasant working lunch to say the least.

Before I knew it, I had eaten my salad and my plate was cleared. Next they served the main course… but UH OH… where’s my fork? All I have left is my little fork. No way Jose, I ate my “Salad with the BIG fork”. What happened? Where are my table "manners"? I was so invested in our conversation that I simply did not pay attention. Well, at least I can’t be accused of not giving “them” my undivided attention … woops!

Secretly I was laughing inside, I may have even blushed a little and I felt hot, telling myself that I was supposed to be "The Polishticated Girl” and a stand for elegance and grace! I had two options; I could call the waiter and ask for another BIG fork and call attention to the very thing I was hiding or hold my little fork as close to the edge at the top and hope no one notices. Fortunately I don’t take life too seriously and so I chose the latter. I held my fork at the very edge… further engaging them in conversation in order to keep their focus "up here lady, up here!" ha ha... I think it looked funny, you could tell it was small. So what’s the moral of the story? Self awareness … that’s all!

The fact is that etiquette is elegant and elegance is sexy, remember to use it where it really matters.

Here’s a short list to common courtesy and basic etiquette...
  1. Always eat your salad with the LITTLE fork!  The basic rule is, start from the outside in.  It’s foolproof …  Well, almost!
  2. Do not place your napkin back on the table, when stepping away fold it loosely and place it on the chair and on the table “only” when done and ready to leave.
  3. When making your way down a crowded theater, always walk in facing front to those already seated, never force anyone to stare at your rear end.  ‘Eh,  even though we know some that wouldn’t mind.’
  4. Never ever wear a strapless dress to a funeral just because it’s black. (True story, more on that later)
  5. If or when on a diet, a lady never discusses it at the table.
  6. "The horn” don’t use it, never honk the horn to your car, except to warn others and in order to help prevent a disaster.
  7. Respect the time of others and make every effort never to be late, to anything.
  8. Always accept a compliment graciously simply by saying “Thank you” nothing else.
  9. Never ask a couple when they’re getting married or having children.
  10. Do not brag, nag, whine or gossip.  There's nothing sexy about that...
  11. Everyone has a name, use it… This includes waiters, servers and clerks.
  12. Remember to use these magic words:  Please, Thank you and excuse me, they go a long way.
Being a woman doesn’t automatically make you a lady and a lady by today’s definition is aware of the importance of educating herself in every way possible, including common sense and common courtesy.

"Being powerful is like being a lady.  If you have to tell people that you are, you aren’t.”
–Margaret Thatcher ‘The Iron Lady'

"Being thought of as a “lady” may be one of the highest compliments a woman can receive in her life.” -Candace Simpson-Giles, Author of “How to be a Lady”

Thanks for reading... Ciao!
